The TriLocal Initiative is a partnership of the merchants associations and municipalities of Forest City, Rutherfordton and Spindale, and Rutherford County government, the Economic Development Commission, and the Tourism Development Authority. It is an outgrowth of the study conducted that revealed that over $600 million in retail sales is spent outside Rutherford County by residents annually. The Initiative will include programs and workshops, promotion, web presence, and working to leverage large purchases. The logo is a Trillium or TriFlower that has three leaves and is a native plant to Rutherford county. It represents the cooperation of the three towns in this endeavor.
